Grievance Procedure
At MCPA, grievance procedure typically involves an informal discussion first, followed by a formal, written complaint that initiates an investigation. Key steps include documenting the issue in writing, submitting it to the appropriate authority, conducting a formal meeting and investigation, and having the option to appeal the decision, which often involves a separate panel.
Informal stage
- Discuss the issue: Start with an informal discussion with the relevant manager or principal to see if the issue can be resolved quickly.
- Desired outcome: Clearly state what you would like to see happen to resolve the problem.
- Document everything: Keep a detailed record of all conversations, including who you spoke to, when, and what was discussed.
Formal stage
- Submit a formal grievance: If the informal discussion doesn’t work, file a formal, written grievance.
- Include details: Your written complaint should clearly state the nature of the problem, the circumstances, any evidence you have, and your desired outcome.
- Investigation: A formal investigation will be conducted, which may involve interviews with involved parties.
- Formal meeting: A formal meeting will be held to discuss the findings of the investigation.
- Written decision: The school will provide a written decision on the grievance.
Appeal stage
- Submit an appeal: If you are not satisfied with the outcome, you have the right to appeal.
- Appeal panel: The appeal will be heard by a different panel, often a sub-committee of the board of governors, to ensure impartiality.
- Appeal hearing: This panel will review the case, hear from the parties involved, and make a final decision, which is typically binding.
