Course Requirement
Grades 7-8
Grade 9
Students take 13 courses. Computer, English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Physical Education, and Religion, Health Science, Social Studies, Spanish, Music or Art or Family & Consumer Science, General Science is divided into Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
All students must sit the BJC examinations for the subjects chosen.
Grade 10
Grade 11
Grade 12
In the twelfth grade, all students will sit the BGCSE examinations in the subjects of English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, as well as all of their respective electives.
*Students will also take the SAT exam again in the first term.
Elementary
At Grades 3 and 6, the students will sit the GLAT National Exam.
BGCSE (Bahamas General Certificate of Secondary Education) is a high school leaving exam for university admission, BJC (Bahamas Junior Certificate) is a junior high school exam for Grade 9 students, and GLAT The Bahamas’ Grade Level Assessment Test (GLAT) is a national examination for third and sixth graders, developed and administered by the Ministry of Education -Bahamas to assess core academic skills. The test covers subjects like Reading Comprehension, Listening Comprehension, Language Skills, and Math, with specific documents and resources available for students preparing for the exam. These examinations are designed to assess and certify students’ academic achievement at different levels of their secondary education in The Bahamas.
BGCSE (Bahamas General Certificate of Secondary Education)
- Level: High school leaving certification.
- Purpose: An internationally recognized examination typically required for university admission and professional qualifications.
BJC (Bahamas Junior Certificate)
- Level: Junior high school, usually at the end of Grade 9.
- Purpose: An examination curriculum designed by the Ministry of Education.
GLAT (Grade Level Assessment Test)
- Purpose: An examination within the Bahamian education system for 3rd and 6th Grades.
Focus: To assess core academic skills at primary levels.
